Novosibirsk is the third most populous city in Russia.  It was founded in 1893, and received the status of a city in 1903.

Tourist attractions in the town and surrounding areas

• Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater - the largest theater in Novosibirsk and Siberia, and one of the most important in Russia.  
• Alexander Nevsky Cathedral - the first stone building in the city, consecrated after only 6 years after the onset of the settlement. The main street of Novosibirsk, Red Prospect, begins near the cathedral. 
• The Museum of Railway Equipment contains a large collection of steam locomotives, diesel locomotives, electric locomotives and rail cars, as well as Soviet cars. The total length of the fairground is about three kilometers. 
• Metro-bridge of Novosibirsk across the Ob River - the longest metro-bridge in the world - with a length of 2,145 m
• The Novosibirsk Zoo has more than 700 kinds of animals.
• Museum of the Sun - the only museum in Russia dedicated to the signs and symbols of the Sun.
