4) Weekends
Be a little more cautious with your choice of food and the amount you drink, especially on weekends, because the interval to the next dialysis session is a day longer. Thus, it’s more likely to exceed healthy limits.
5) Smoking
It’s no secret: Smoking in general is harmful to your health. This is especially true for people with kidney disease as smoking puts a strain on the heart and blood vessels. If you are still smoking, now is a good time to quit. Your dialysis staff will help you to succeed.
6) Frustrations & support
Many patients with chronic disease go through difficult phases. Always remember: Your family, friends as well as the people in your renal care center are there for you if you need support. In addition, there’s the opportunity to join self-help groups or patient communities. You never walk alone.
7) Communication
Open communication with your healthcare team is important for your health – both mental and physical. Your doctor and the nursing staff always have your best interests at heart. Don’t be afraid to ask. They will support you to the best of their knowledge and ability.
